"Gangtok" East Sikkim Gangtok is the capital of the Indian state of Sikkim situated at an elevation of 5,480 feet above sea level and it experiences a temperate climate throughout the year Gangtok is a premier tourist spot in NorthEastern India. Enchey Monastery
Situated on a beautiful hilltop near Gangtok TV Tower is this magnificent Nyingmapa Monastery of Enchey Sangag Rabtenling. It's famous for its Chines Pagoda style design. It belongs to the Nyingma order of Vajrayana Buddhism. Although a subordinate to the Pemyangtse monastery, Enchey monastery is also an important seat of the Nyingma order. Hardly three km from Gangtok this is a 200-year-old monastery.
Do-Drul Chorten or Stupa
The Do-Drul Chorten or Stupa was built by the Venerable Trulshi Rimpoche, head of the Nyingma order of Tibetan Buddhism in 1945. Inside this stupa, there are complete mandala sets of Dorjee Phurba (Bajra Kilaya), a set of Kan-gyur relics (Holy Books), complete 'Zung'(mantras) and other religious objects. Around this Chorten, which is one of the most important stupas in Sikkim, are 10 Mani-Lhakor (prayer wheels). These prayer wheels are turned by the devout Buddhist while chanting "Hail to the jewel in the Lotus", to invoke the Buddhisattva. The Chorten is surrounded by Chorten Lakhang, where there are two huge statues of Guru Rimpoche (Guru Padmasambhava).
Rumtek Monastery
One of the most important monasteries of the Buddhism religious faith in Asia, the Rumtek monastery is located at Gangtok, just around 25 km from the main city of Gangtok. Also considered as one of the largest monasteries in India, the beautifully built Rumtek Monastery is known for its elegant Tibetan architecture. The most popular Buddhism destination in India, the Rumtek Monastery was built in the year 1960 as the seat of the Karma Kagyu lineage.
Khangchendzonga Cultural cum Village Tourism Complex, Ranka
Just 13-and-half km away from Gangtok and nestling in the pristine valley of Ranka next to Rumtek, the Khangchendzonga Tourist Complex, popularly known as KTC Ranka, is a one-stop solution for myriad needs of both tourists and travelers.
Lingdum Monastery
Lingdum Monastery (also Ranka Lingdum or Pal Zurmang Kagyud Monastery) is a Buddhist monastery near Ranka in Sikkim, about an hour's drive from Gangtok. It was completed in 1999. It follows the Zurmang Kagyu tradition.
Banjhakri Falls
The Banjhakri Falls and Energy Park is a recreation center and tourist attraction near Gangtok, in the state of Sikkim, India. The park's statuary and other displays document the Ban Jhakri, or traditional shamanic healer who worships spirits living in caves around the falls. Ban means "forest", and jhākri means "healer"
Gangtok Ropeway
Enjoy the mesmerizing townscape of Gangtok by riding in a Ropeway or a cable car. Witness the aerial view of Gangtok and get enchanted by its surreal resplendence. Bakthang Waterfalls
The Bakthang waterfall is only 20 minutes drive from Gangtok town to a place called Swastik, adjacent to the army cantonment area. A serene waterfall cascades down the rock forming a small pool down below. It is located along 31A National Highway connecting to North Sikkim. In the local language ‘Bak’ means a forest and ‘thang’ meaning meadow or place. The natural spring water source of these falls originates from the dense vegetation above this site which is preserved as a Smriti Ban by the Forest Department. This site is a little away from the crowded marketplace and hidden from the urban sprawl.
Ganesh Tok
At a road distance of 7 kilometers above Gangtok, Ganesh Tok is a small temple dedicated to Lord Ganesh. This place offers a birds-eye-view of the town below and a spectacular panorama of the Khangchendzonga range on the horizon. Ganesh Tok is a Hindu deity temple frequently visited by the tourists coming to Gangtok. Many popular pictures of Gangtok are taken from this vantage point. The site has been spruced up to provide a superb view of the town and distant rolling hills and snowy peaks and also to accommodate the cars that drive to this site.
Aritar Lake
Aritar Lake is one of the oldest lakes in Sikkim and the main tourist attraction of Aritar. Lampokhri lake is the highest boating lake in Sikkim. Tourists can also stay in Mankhim Top from where the lake and snow-covered Mt Kanchenjangha looks really splendid. It is the latest offbeat destination in East Sikkim and growing popularity amongst the tourist community across the world.
