The fort was excavated during 1969-1973 which yielded terracotta plaques, decorative tiles, potteries, terracotta figurines. Popular legends and traditions identify the ruins of the fort as the site of the capital of Raja Bhismaka, father of Rumini (wife of Lord Krishna). The complex houses the ruins of a brick-built structure of 1860.52 sq. m plinth area, having three halls, two extension rooms, and six entrances in all. It has two impressive gates – Eastern Gate and Western Gate. Almost the entire area of the fortress is protected with a rampart wall made of bricks, stone, and mud. The Northern side of the fort is protected by the natural boundary of hills. Some Ancient pot made up of mud with different designs has found here.

Major Tribe in Bhismaknagar is Idu Mishmi. People of sober nature still maintain deep-rooted aesthetic values in their day-to-day life with great pride and honor. All-pervading goddess Nani-Intaya is the sole creator of the universe for the Idus. The major festivals of the Idus are ‘Reh’ and ‘Ke-meh-ha’. Reh festival is held during the month of February. It is an occasion for people to worship God. relax, enjoy, dance, eat and drink. The Idus are expert craftsmen. The Idu women, in particular, are very good weavers. Their great aesthetic sense is well reflected in the exquisite designs created on the clothes produced on handlooms. The Idu men are well apt in making beautiful basketry items of bamboo and cane.
